In this week’s episode of the Weekly Wrap, Janine Ryan discusses what you can expect to read in the 26 March issue of Farmer’s Weekly, which will be on shelf on 19 March.
In this week’s issue, Farmer’s Weekly speaks to Wagyu stud farmer Dr Anja Steinberg, who runs her stud on sourveld in Mpumalanga. Steinberg discusses how she produces top-quality Wagyu animals with a marbling score of between 4 and 7.
This week’s issue focuses on soil health and irrigation, and includes an article on the salinity of irrigation water, and how farmers can better manage this.
Farmer’s Weekly also speaks to ‘salad king’ Michael Kaplan about his company, Dew Crisp. Dew Crisp produces salad vegetables in tunnels, under shade netting and on open fields.
Ryan also looks at the current spat in the tobacco industry between large multi-national and smaller cigarette manufacturers, as well as the incomplete Tzaneen dam wall project and what affect this is having on the dam’s storage capacity.
