Prime Minister David Cameron urged the British Parliament on Friday to approve plans to join the American-led air campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq. The prime minister said it was in the UK's national interest to join the fight against IS, which he warned would "take years not months". Joining air strikes against IS in Iraq would be "clearly lawful", he insisted.
Parliament is due to vote on UK involvement in US-led attacks on IS positions in Iraq at about 17:00 BST. Downing Street has said a small number of British troops could return to Iraq if the Commons backs British military action, but not in a combat role.
