Ranked by Forbes as the 4th most influential CMO in the world I guess we should all sit up and take notice when Mastercard CMO & CCO officer Raja Rajamanna says Marketing is in a deep existential crisis right now. The dissolution of the marketer’s role is well under way.

Now if you had to Google CCO for context then maybe that’s where the challenge starts. Chief Communications Officer. So many chief marketer roles are being eliminated and new titles are being created. Chief growth officer, chief revenue officer or chief customer officer. If you take away growth, revenue and customers, what is left in marketing?

Has marketing been eroded to the point where Promotion is the only surviving pillar of the Four P’s?
