Stompie Manana has spent more than 50 years playing the trumpet, and was a founder member of the famous African Jazz Pioneers.
Top musician Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse describes Manana as "one of the most underrated and unheralded" trumpeters in the country.
From 1956 Manana played and toured with bands like Savoy
Havanas, African Swingsters and a whole generation of
talented jazzmen including Gideon Nxumalo, Mackay
Davashe, Peter Rezant, Kippie Moeketsi, Zakes Nkosi
and Gwigwi Mrwebi. He also mhad many recordings with
the Chris McGregor Big Band.
He also recorded extensively with the African Jazz Pioneers
which he is the founding member of, who performed and
had a live recording in Switzerland.
In 2022, he is working on a tell all book, a documentary of his life in his music and for the first time, his debut album.
