Scrapping deadlines to fix schools could have human rights implications

South African Human Rights Commissioner Andre Gaum has cautioned that proposals to remove the deadlines for school infrastructure projects could have human rights implications.

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga has proposed draft amendments to the Norms and Standards for Public School Infrastructure, the legislation governing provision of infrastructure at schools which includes removing timeframes for implementation of infrastructure projects.
