The vocalist, composer, and writer known in the jazz world simply as 'Somi'a Grammy-nominated American-born singer, songwriter, playwright, and actor of Rwandan and Ugandan descent. Somi is the first African woman to be nominated for a Grammy Award in a Jazz category.

Touched down earlier this year in South Africa to launch her tribute project in memory of Miriam Makeba.

We caught up with Somi, after that electrifying performance which was held at the state theater in Pretoria.
