The Mkhize & Spiess Project Interview 17 April 2022

The music of the newly formed quartet of the two band leaders Afrika Mkhize and Simon Spiess moves in modern jazz and is packed with catchy themes and energetic solos. It is power jazz as you are used to from South Africa.

The quartet consists of two famous musicians from South Africa: Afrika Mkhize on piano and Ayanda Sikade on drums, as well as two established musicians from Switzerland, with Raffaele Bossard on double bass and Simon Spiess on saxophone.

The four band members play their own compositions that leave plenty of room to let off steam solo and meet for the first time this spring to embark on this musical journey together.

We caught up with this new outfit on the show.
