• There’s one thing that’s common for people like us, and by people like us referring to a good majority of South African working class and that is traffic especially in the morning and afternoons, which is exacerbated by load shedding blackouts. This has recently resulted in some good samaritans which mostly are homeless people donning reflector vests and manning busy intersections.
• There are an estimated 200 000 spaza shops in South Africa. According to the South African township marketing report published in 2021 by digital marketing agency Rogerwilco, spaza shops contribute up to 5.2% to the country’s GDP, employing 2.6 million individuals. Why is it a bit normal to the rest of the world when it is Africa that is associated with any form of suffering but any other part of the world evokes serious attention and aid? Are we missing something?
