
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah passes away

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz was laid to rest this afternoon after passing away last night from a lung infection. King Abdullah, who had ruled since 2005, was 90 years old. His 79-year-old half-brother, Salman, has been confirmed as the new king. Within hours of his accession to the throne of the oil-rich kingdom, King Salman vowed to maintain the same policies as his predecessors. So what legacy does King Abdullah leave behind?

BIO: Dr Larbi Sadiki is a Tunisian author, political scientist and senior lecturer at the University of Exeter in the UK, specialising in Arab and Middle Eastern democratisation processes. Sadiki holds a PhD in political science and international relations from the Australian National University. He received a number of fellowships and awards and has published many ground breaking books, too many to mention. Dr Sadiki's academic articles have been published in many journals and his views and opinions are also widely sought.
