President Cyril Ramaphosa has proclaimed the commencement of the new South African Postbank Amendment Act – which will become active law in the country on 19 February 2024. Independent Political Analyst and CA(SA), Khaya Sithole, joined Sizwe Dhlomo to break down how this process towards building a state bank has rolled out, and how this will differ to already existing banks. They also touched on this appetite to start new banks, making examples like OSK, which the Reserve Bank has denied giving an award; and YWBN, first women-owned bank that has recently been granted a Mutual Bank Licence.
