E-toll to be scrapped officially from April

E-tolls will start officially being scrapped next month, after a decade of controversy that created
little more than a huge pile of debt for authorities, and widespread animosity among Gauteng
motorists. The segments of Gauteng road where e-tolls have been operating will be stripped of their status as continuous toll roads with electronic toll points. This was officially declared in a Government Gazette published on Thursday morning, which was signed by the Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga. The Gazette removes the e-toll status of six segments of Gauteng roads.
