Two incidences of severe turbulence were reported towards the end of last month. One was on a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore, where one passenger died and more than 70 passengers and crew suffered injuries, some of which were serious. A few days later, a Qatar Airways flight to Dublin from Doha encountered severe turbulence over Turkey, with 12 passengers and crew sustaining injuries, which the airline described as minor. Forecaster at SA Weather Services, Lehlogonolo Thobela, joined Sizwe Dhlomo to discuss how climate change impacts these more frequent and severe turbulence incidents.
