Fighting Poverty Through Education | Malaak Compton-Rock

Loading player...
Malaak is a danger to poverty, poor education and social injustice. A resident of New York and an American by birth, Malaak considers South Africa her motherland and has travelled here 44 times since her first visit in the early nineties. Having been married to famous actor and comedian Chris Rock, she has intimate experience of the life of the rich and famous and has been instrumental in inspiring celebrities and those with means to get involved in social upliftment programmes.

Malaak is a passionate proponent of education as the most powerful antidote to poverty and she founded the Angelrock Project Foundation in 2008 to provide youth in underserviced communities in the USA and South Africa with the opportunity and inspiration to further their education. The foundation also provides support and programmes to vulnerable communities suffering the impact of HIV orphaned children, gender-based violence and food insecurity. The title of her book “If It Takes A Village, Build One”, beautifully sums up her belief that we all have a responsibility to roll up our sleeves and get involved in making the world a better place.

Be inspired by this moving conversation to play your role in modelling the way for the next generation to build a safe and prosperous future for us all.
