Gwarube on education budget cuts

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube briefed the media about overall budget shortfalls in education for the first time since controversy erupted over planned teacher cuts a few weeks ago. Gwarube has requested an urgent meeting with the finance minister on a way forward regarding budget cuts in education. She pointed to slow economic growth at below 1%, corruption and an increase in school enrolments as pressures on schooling budgets.
