Jude chats with independent world-folk artist, producer, and collaborator Ann Jangle on the SA & Indie Music Zone.

Since beginning her music career in 2011, Ann Jangle has emerged as a unique artist blending dark folk and gypsy-ska sounds. Originally based in Cape Town, South Africa, she released her full band album, Kicking Sawdust, in 2015 before moving to Berlin. There, she toured across 17 European countries, performing in diverse venues—from street busking to major festivals—alongside a nine-piece band. Her music gained international attention, highlighted by Kulula Inflight Magazine, Kfm Radio, and Texx and the City. After a high-profile performance at Vienna's Afrika Tage Festival, Ann returned to South Africa to create her debut solo album, African Dream Parade, which merges African influences and chant-like harmonies.

Ann's commitment to positive impact continued with a 23,000 km tour across South Africa with her sound engineer Mike Hunter, performing over 100 gigs and raising 3 tons of pet food for shelters. Following a final performance at Mozambique's STRAB Festival, Ann began a solo cycling journey from South Africa to Kenya, performing for communities and raising awareness for endangered wildlife. Settling in Kenya, she launched “Conscious Concerts” in 2020 and collaborated on her latest EP, Into The Desert, inspired by her travels across Africa.
