Yesterday we were watching the Tunisian museum attack unfolding on our timelines and it seems today Tunisian authorities have named the two gunmen involved in the killing of 19 people. One of the assailants was known to the intelligence service. Officials identified the attackers as Yassine Laabidi and Hatem Khachnaoui but said no formal links to a particular armed group had been established. Both men were killed by security services in a raid after they attacked the National Bardo Museum.
Details about the attackers' identity emerged as President Beij Caid Essebsi vowed to wage a "merciless war against terrorism".
Just to note that 17 foreign tourists were killed and 2 Tunisians. There’ve been reports that a South African was also killed, but our reporters say DIRCO has not yet confirmed this.
