In late 2024 it emerged that SARU were on the verge of acquiring a private equity partner. The USA-based consortium would pump much needed money into South African rugby and take over the commercial activities of the Springboks. But as more details emerged the deal began to look worse and worse for South Africa. In this video Peter provides the latest update which suggests the ASG (Ackerley Sports Group) deal may very well now be dead in the water. There could well be a brand new group that comes on board that includes local investors like Johann Rupert, Marco Masotti and Patrice Motsepe. But before any of that can take place, SARU is now going to run an independent audit to determine what went wrong.
