Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader Mmusi Maimane is calling for the Department of Basic Education to improve the country's average pass mark for learners to be competent enough and be accepted into universities. Maimane said that the improvement of the average pass mark from 30% to 50% would enable the learners after matric to compete for employment opportunities. According to the BOSA leader, celebrating the recent matric overall pass rate of 87% when most learners won't be able to further their studies was an embarrassment to the country's education. He said that a legitimate education system should be able to ensure that no child will be left behind. Phemelo speaks to Maimane further about the party’s concerns regarding the current pass mark.
