Numsa march to Tshwane House over bus drivers’ unpaid packages

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) marched to the City of Tshwane Offices in Pretoria today to hand over a memorandum to Mayor Nasiphi Moya demanding payment of 261 former bus drivers’ retrenchment packages. The drivers’ employment contracts were terminated after the city’s transport service, A Re Yeng, parted ways with one of its bus operators, Tshwane Affected Operators Investments (TAOI). Numsa says the city had promised to pay the retrenchment packages and to hire the workers following the termination of the contracts. The union says the commitment was not confirmed in writing.
