The Annapurna Ascent: Episode 14: Reunited at base camp

Loading player...
Warren Eva has made it back to the relative safety of basecamp on mount Annapurna.

He made history yesterday morning when he became the first South African to reach the peak of the world's 10th highest mountain.

Warren and his longtime climbing partner John Black set off for the summit on Sunday.

They battled treacherous conditions through minus 30 degree temperatures along hard blue ice, dangerous crevasses, and avalanches far too close for comfort.

Early yesterday morning John made the tough call to abandon his summit attempt and turn back.

It's been a nail-biting descent for Warren, and the childhood friends were reunited at base camp this afternoon.
