Minister confirms person shot dead at Walter Sisulu University was a student there

Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane has confirmed the young man who was shot and killed at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU)'s Mthatha campus was indeed a student at the institution. The university management issued a statement claiming Sisonke Mbolekwa was not registered at the institution, sparking backlash from students who took to social media to deny their claims. Mbolekwa was allegedly shot by a residence manager at the institution while protesting with other students, calling for better accommodation facilities. Minister Nkabane visited the campus on Wednesday. Phemelo speaks to Director General at the Department of Higher Education and Training, Dr Nkosinathi Sishi.
