Johannesburg Water says the upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery across the city. While acknowledging the inconvenience, the utility has assured residents that measures are in place to minimise the impact.

As of Sunday, the City of Johannesburg remains under Level 1 water restrictions. Johannesburg Water has also been implementing a supply reduction strategy since 8 November 2024, and says this has been communicated to residents.

The water utility says its systems have remained stable and are being closely monitored. Updates will be shared as necessary.

“To help manage high water consumption and support system recovery, we will continue enforcing our restriction programme,” Johannesburg Water said. “This includes scheduled pumping halts at various stations and towers as per our ongoing plan.”
