EVENT PROMOTER SAMUEL MUNYAKE BRINGS GOSPEL STARS TO DURBAN
In a recent episode of "Just Gospel," host Temi sat down with Samuel Munyake, an accountant who has carved out a second career as one of Southern Africa's youngest gospel event promoters.
Munyake's journey began during his university years when he was tasked with leading an events organizing team for a Christian student leadership group. This experience introduced him to the world of event management, where he developed a passion for coordinating gospel concerts and working with artists.
After university, Munyake and his friends launched their own events company, leveraging their connections with notable gospel performers. Their first independent event proved challenging, with Munyake candidly admitting he was "unprepared" and faced significant financial losses. The process taught him about the complexities of event management, from securing venue permits to coordinating with local authorities and obtaining proper insurance.
"It was extremely difficult," Munyake reflected, noting that he was working a full-time accounting job and had a pregnant wife at the time of his first event. Despite these obstacles, the excitement from audiences kept him motivated.
Currently, Munyake is promoting Chandler Moore's upcoming tour, with shows in Europe and Africa. South Africa will host three performances in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and—notably—Durban at the ICC on April 6th. The Durban show will feature additional performers including Musa Worship and Lisa Gerald.
While passionate about event promotion, Munyake maintains his day job as an accountant, saying, "Nine to five puts food on my table. I'm a husband, I'm a father." He sees event promotion as his calling but recognizes it's not sustainable as full-time work at this stage.
Looking ahead, Munyake revealed he's in talks with several international gospel artists including Brandon Lake from Elevation Worship, CCYNS, and Marvin Sapp for future events.
Tickets for the Durban show are available through Ticketpro and are "flying very fast like muffins," according to Munyake.
