An organisation that plays a crucial role in rescuing abandoned babies is getting some much needed help - thanks to HOT1027 listeners..
It’s Child Protection Week, and here on HOT1027, we’ve been shining a light on South Africa’s most urgent crises—none more heartbreaking than baby abandonment.
Every year, thousands of newborns are left in plastic bags, at taxi ranks, and on rubbish dumps—many with their umbilical cords still attached.
The statistics paint a grim picture - with Only one in three babies surviving.
But there ARE organisations saving lives.
"Impilo Child Protection & Adoption services" has created “Abandoned Baby Rescue Kits”— they're lifesaving bags given to trained police, security, and community responders.
Each kit contains vital items to clean, hydrate, warm, and protect a baby in those critical moments after being found—because in a crisis, every second counts.
