In Conversation With Solly Msimanga (Gauteng DA leader)

Gauteng DA leader Solly Msimanga led a walkabout in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD) to assess crime levels and engage with residents and business owners.
The visit included stops at several key locations such as the historic Carlton Centre, as well as Small and Lillian Ngoyi streets. According to the party, the aim was to observe first-hand how rising crime is impacting the inner city.
Msimanga interacted with local businesspeople and ordinary residents, many of whom expressed frustration over safety concerns and a perceived lack of visible policing.
He said the city is facing a crisis of political inaction, accusing some leaders of enabling criminal networks rather than addressing them.
“We find ourselves in a situation where crime is not being properly tackled because politicians and criminal elements are working together,” Msimanga said. “This raises a serious concern — are we living under a criminal or mafia state? Or will we finally see meaningful efforts to clean up the city? This is something we will be pushing for going forward.”
