Political analyst Prof Andre Duwenage joins us we take a closer look at
the recently held National Convention in Pretoria, which
brought together citizens, government officials, and civil
society to discuss the future of South Africa. While the
event aimed to create a shared national vision, it
revealed a disconnect between political leaders,
including President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy
President Paul Mashatile, and ordinary citizens.
Delegates raised urgent concerns around crime,
corruption, inequality, and lack of accountability, and
tensions arose when some felt their voices were
misrepresented or ignored. Despite the challenges, the
convention concluded with several resolutions,
including commitments to enhance inclusivity,
transparency, and citizen engagement, address pressing
issues like unemployment and crime, and maintain
ongoing dialogue through regional forums.
