Yesterday, was a historic moment as hundreds of students watched the removal of the Rhodes Statue – seen to be a symbol of white colonialism. But the matter has now morphed into a debate around the removal of all colonial-era statues, after the statue of Louis Botha outside the gates of Parliament was smeared with red and blue paint on Wednesday night. This week, we also saw an opposing group of Afrikaners calling on government to protect heritage sites and statues around the country.
