Five years ago, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, a fresh voice
emerged on South African airwaves and global streaming platforms. S’nazo, a
Johannesburg-based Afro-soul artist, made her formal entry into the music
scene with her debut single, Ntliziyo Yami, composed and produced by
Afrotraction. The track quickly gained traction on major radio stations
including Umhlobo Wenene, Ukhozi FM, and Metro FM, establishing her as a
rising star in Afropop and Afro-soul.
Over the past five years, S’nazo has built a remarkable career. She released
her first album, I Am Gold, in 2022, earning a South African Music Awards
(SAMA) nomination for Best African Adult Contemporary Album. The album
enjoyed widespread exposure, featuring on television series such as Skeem
Saam (Seasons 11–12), and saw her hit single Ngikhathele temporarily
replace classic soundtracks on the show. In January 2025, she released her
second album, Churchgirl Who Sings Afro, exploring Afro-soul and gospel jazz
while conveying messages of love, faith, and hope. Its single, Ngwana Batho,
charted for several weeks on Motsweding FM’s Top 30.
To celebrate her five-year milestone as an independent artist, S’nazo is
releasing her latest Afropop single, Dikatareng, on Thursday, 2 October 2025,
at midnight. A stripped-down piano version will also be available, offering
fans a more intimate listening experience. Sung in Sesotho, Dikatareng is a
feel-good anthem designed to become a sing-along favourite. Its catchy
melody and vibrant energy capture the essence of joyous moments, whether
at live shows or simply enjoying music at home.
Speaking about the single, S’nazo shares:
> “Dikatareng is that place with beautiful live music, where everyone is
happy, dancing, and singing along to their favourite songs. It captures that
feeling of getting dressed up on a sunny day, heading out to a show, and
being surrounded by the people you love. I think it could easily be one of the
happiest songs I have ever released. For me, it’s the perfect track to
celebrate my walk in music.”
The song was written and composed by Ace Moloi, with production by PLF
Music and reimagined by Moïse Archipe (lead guitar), Sibusiso Phasiwe
(bass), and Theo Mnikes (keys). It was mixed and mastered by Thabiso
‘Mictacula’ Sothoane, with all vocals performed by S’nazo.
Born in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, S’nazo holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences
degree in Criminology and Sociology from the University of the Free State.
Her music, carrying messages of love, hope, spiritual and social upliftment,
has resonated with audiences through radio, television, festivals, and live
performances across the country.
