Mbali Mashaba is a celebrated South African Creative
Researcher, Film Director, and Film Curator, listed
among the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans
for her remarkable impact in the Film and Media space.
A graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand with
an Honours degree in Film and Television Studies and
a film residency at Gothenburg University, Mbali’s work
is deeply rooted in authentic storytelling, nuanced
portrayals of African diasporic life, and the layered
narratives of Black women. She is the visionary founder
of Behind Her Lens Visuals and the annual Reel to
Reality Film Festival, both created as platforms to
spotlight African independent cinema and nurture new
voices in film.
