From Caregiver to CEO: Loghain Mokgele's Journey of Faith, Family, and Flour

Loading player...
In this inspiring episode, Loghain Mokgele shares her remarkable journey from home baker to successful entrepreneur, revealing how faith, family tragedy, and obedience to God's calling transformed her life and business.
Early Beginnings
Loghain's baking story began at age nine, experimenting in her family kitchen. Despite an initial failed pizza base attempt, she persevered. Her breakthrough came at age 12 when she followed a cocoa powder tin recipe, creating what her family declared the "best, moistest chocolate cake" they'd ever tasted. This passion was influenced by her mother, a single parent raising four daughters, who had sold scones as a side business—a legacy Loghain would unknowingly inherit.
The Caregiving Years
After completing retail business management (2015) and business administration (2016), Loghain's path shifted dramatically when her mother developed dementia. Between 2018-2020, she became primary caregiver, sacrificing career ambitions for the woman who gave her everything. During COVID-19's isolation, as people lost jobs, Loghain made a pivotal decision: transform her side hustle into a full-time business. In 2021, she officially registered Baked by Loghain.
Divine Connections
Loghain's faith opened remarkable doors:

A high school friend connected her to GAP funding (R15,000 for equipment)
After fasting and praying for mentorship in 2023, she was matched with Jiga Communications in 2024
Her mentor was also caring for a grandmother with dementia—an immediate, profound connection
She won second prize in a December 2024 pitching contest

Product Excellence
Operating from Shepfield, Baked by Loghain offers:

Signature cakes: Carrot cake (bestseller), red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, mint chocolate, caramel, and coconut
Innovative offerings: Scones, carnival-style mini donuts for events, and creative chemer flavors including blueberry and boba-infused varieties with tapioca pearls

Loghain positions her brand as high-end, using premium ingredients without compromise. Her business education taught her that positioning is what clients envision when they think of your brand—and she's earned a reputation for excellence.
Faith as Foundation
Loghain's success stems from obedience: she blesses her market stall before every event, made lifestyle changes including celibacy and dietary adjustments when God directed, and regularly experiences divine favor—even selling out in unfamiliar territories with established competition. Her prayer: "May the goodness and glory of the Lord be seen through me."
