DA’s Billboard War: Taking Aim at the ANC’s BEE Policy

Tensions between the DA and its coalition partner, the ANC, have flared up again, this time on the N1 highway. The DA unveiled a bold new billboard declaring, “BEE made ANC elites rich, and left SA poor. Choose real opportunities for all! Vote DA.” The move comes hot on the heels of the DA’s proposed Economic Inclusion for All Bill, which seeks to replace Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) with what it calls a “race-neutral” and “needs-based” model. But the ANC isn’t budging, rejecting any notion of scrapping BEE. The DA’s Helen Zille led the billboard reveal, while party policy head Mat Cuthbert defended its message, saying it “tells the truth about what many South Africans already know, that BEE has failed under the ANC.” Phemelo speaks to DA spokesperson Willie Aucamp.
