With the official unemployment rate standing at 33.2% in Q2 2025 and the expanded measure at 42.9%, some 8.4 million South Africans remain jobless. Meanwhile, an estimated 63% of the population lives in poverty under upper-middle-income thresholds, over 39 million people struggling daily to survive.
