The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is marking a new chapter in South
Africa’s aerospace innovation journey with the launch of its Advanced
Manufacturing Facility (AMF) and the new offices of the Aerospace Systems
Research Institute (ASRI).
Officiated by Dr Mlungisi Cele, Director-General for Science, Technology and
Innovation, this milestone strengthens UKZN’s role in advancing local research,
design, and manufacturing of aerospace systems — from rocket propulsion to space
engineering components.
ASRI, initially founded in 2009 as the Aerospace Syste
