UNICEF: One in Five Children Still in Extreme Poverty
Loading player...
A new UNICEF report shows 20% of the world’s children remain trapped in extreme poverty most in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, but even rich countries aren’t exempt. UNICEF warns that stalled progress, conflict and aid cuts could push millions more into deprivation. In low-income countries, 65% of children still lack access to a toilet. Still, strong national policies work: Tanzania and Bangladesh sharply cut child poverty through social protection. UNICEF South Africa’s Russell Wildeman unpacks the report with Phemelo and highlights what governments can do now.
