Associate Professor Rodney Genga is the Wits-SAHLI
design team lead and Director of the Engineering and
Built Environment Academic Development Unit. He is
also a Principal Researcher in the School of
Mechanical, Industrial, and Aeronautical Engineering
at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is trained in
Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, and Materials
Science. His work focuses on materials, manufacturing
technologies, microscopy, and skills development in
Africa. He has had international research ties in
Germany and the Czech Republic. His research
interests include cermets, green machining, advanced
microscopy techniques, surface improvement, and 3D
printing for industrial uses. Professor Genga is also
dedicated to building capacity across Africa. He works
to develop scientific skills, innovation, and research
facilities that tackle local problems.
