KwaZulu Natal’s coastline delivered standout fishing action this week, with Durban firmly in the spotlight. Durban Central beaches and the bay fished exceptionally well, producing a mix of shad, sandies, honeys, browns and the odd kob, while calmer spells allowed paddle ski and ski boat anglers to capitalise on strong offshore conditions. Snook, couta, yellowfin tuna and quality bottom fish such as rockcod, slingers and amberjack featured prominently. The North Coast also fired, from Blue Lagoon through Virginia, Umhlanga and northwards, with shad, kingfish (GTs), edibles and exciting offshore reports including couta and tuna. Highlights included notable catches at Tugela Mouth, where record class and unusual species underlined just how special the bite has been.
Further south, the South Coast arguably stole the show, with consistent edibles and non edibles from Scottburgh to the far lower coast, including kob, stumpies, bronze bream, sand sharks and big rock species, while offshore crews enjoyed wahoo, tuna and couta. Looking inland, the Midlands offered mixed but improving freshwater reports: river fishing remained steady with yellowfish and trout in clear conditions, though warmer dam temperatures made bass fishing tough and led to the cancellation of the Albert Falls Classic. Overall, with favorable conditions lining up, anglers across KZN are set for another highly promising week on the water.
