Gauteng gambling and liquor boards rocked by explosive probe findings

Gauteng Economic Development MEC Vuyiswa Ramokgopa has fired Gauteng Gambling Board CEO Karabo Mbele and suspended CFO Oscar Maripane after a forensic report uncovered procurement irregularities and governance failures. Another inquiry into the Gauteng Liquor Board also exposed alleged corruption, weak enforcement and what investigators called “deregulation by stealth”. Ramokgopa says her office has been flooded with whistleblower reports and has vowed to restore public trust. Phemelo speaks to MEC Vuyiswa Ramokgopa.
