We learned this past week of the passing of Odwa Mvunge. He was the conductor and founder of the Zolani Youth Choir in the Zolani informal settlement in Ashton in the Boland region of the Western Cape.

In January 2020 Odwa sat down in the Fine Music Radio studios for an interview about his life and work, and the upcoming trip of the choir to the World Choir Games 2020 in the cities of Antwerp and Ghent in Belgium. They would also have toured to Germany for a cultural exchange.

In this interview Odwa's passion for his work and the betterment of the youth of Zolani is evident. To quote Odwa: "..the primary.. (goal) is to show the kids that through dedication, time and perseverance, and putting your heart to a certain thing, nothing is impossible."
