The Johannesburg mayoral race continues to intensify as more political parties announce their candidates for what many consider to be one of the most closely watched contests of the upcoming local government elections. The Economic Freedom Fighters have announced Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng as their mayoral candidate for Johannesburg, bringing the number of declared candidates to more than nine ahead of the November elections.
iTalkYouth has been closely following the mayoral race through a series of conversations with prominent candidates, including Helen Zille, Herman Mashaba, Kenny Kunene, Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster, and Lukhona Mnguni.
The programme will continue its special election coverage in the lead-up to the polls by engaging with more mayoral candidates and political voices. Tonight, we will be joined by a young political voice to analyse this year's Johannesburg mayoral race, discuss expectations for the election, and examine what is at stake for South Africa's economic hub.
