South Africans received a staggering 17.47 billion spam calls in the first six months of 2026, with sales and telemarketing making up 64% of all spam calls in July alone, according to Truecaller.
But help could be on the way.
The National Consumer Commission is preparing to launch a national Opt-Out Registry, giving consumers a way to say, “Please, stop calling me!” and opt out of unwanted marketing calls.
