ANC takes IEC to Electoral Court, and "jou ma se" Pemmy-gate

Loading player...
In our top story this Sunday, the ANC is heading for a legal showdown with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Electoral Court over supposed technical IT glitches that saw it failing to log the correct candidates in time for municipalities in three provinces; first the Eastern Cape, the Free State, and now the problem’s bigger in KwaZulu-Natal too. The DA, though, is fighting to have the final say in the case ahead of the November 4th polls. In other news, Water and Sanitation Minister, Pemmy Majodina, puts her foot in it by swearing at a disabled resident at a Kouga Local Municipality sewer pump launch event in Loerie this week, with opposition parties now pushing to have her punished by Parliament. In consumer news, if you’ve taken the progressive and often costly decision to install solar panels on your roof to power your home, all to avoid any annoying electricity outages, Eskom has now given you until the end of this month to register the setup. Meanwhile, pain at the petrol pumps is becoming a common theme for us this 2026, with fresh data pointing to yet another hefty fuel price increase this October. Plus, four other stories you may have missed in the week that was, tune in to News24’s Unread this Sunday with your host, broadcast journalist Graeme Raubenheimer. Expect fresh shows twice a week. This show has been carefully produced, presented and edited by Raubenheimer, News24 visual director Wynand Louw, and video journalists Luke Daniel, Storm Simpson and Chelsea Ogilvie.
