A crisis has unfolded in Burundi as a military coup d'etat takes place following president Nkurunziza's refusal to step down. Tensions have been building ever since Nkurunzinza announced that he would be running for a third presidential term. According to Burundian Constitution, this is not allowed. Gunfire has erupted since yesterday since the army general announced a coup. Meanwhile, the President's spokesman dismissed it as a "joke”.
