The Gauteng Liquor Board (GLB) strongly condemns all incidents of shootings, violence and criminal activities at liquor outlets across the province. Such incidents pose a serious threat to the safety and lives of patrons, employees, liquor traders and surrounding communities. In relation to the recent West Rand shootings, the GLB can confirm that Dora’s Taven in Wedela, Fochville licence is valid and has been verified and compliant in terms of its yearly renewal subscription.
The GLB is working with the South African Police Services (SAPS) and has issued a Section 212 statement (under the South African Criminal Procedure Act) which will allow the state to introduce expert or technical findings into court as prima facie proof. The GLB is deeply concerned about criminal activities at licensed liquor premises and calls on all liquor traders to take urgent and proactive measures to strengthen security and prevent their establishments from becoming sites of violence and criminal conduct.
