Home to just over 8000 people the city of Iqaluit(ee-qa-lu-wait/pronounce quickly) falls in one of the most inhospitable regions in Canada, practically bordering the arctic circle far to the country's north-east. Despite being situated in such a far-flung region of the planet, the city does have a small but growing population of Muslims, currently amassing just over 100 people. Early this month, construction started on the Iqaluit's first Islamic Centre, which will serve as a prayer, da'wah and educational facility. VOC Journalist Mubeen Banderker spoke to Shaykh Abdullah Hakim Quick, da'wah coordinator for the Canadian Council of Imams, on the history of Muslim's in Canada's far-north, and the details on the proposed facility.
