On the 22nd of July, the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape government unveiled historic plans to upgrade and improve Manenberg which will advance safety, education, healthcare, technology and innovation. However, many people have been wary of these upgrades and complaining that they have not been consulted. COSATU's provincial secretary, Tony Ehrenreich labelled the proposed upgrades an “election gimmick”. Yesterday, the City of Cape Town held a meeting with the Manenberg Steering committee about the vision for the area.
