
Violence in schools

At a Parliament briefing earlier this week, the Department of Basic education highlighted the issue of the increasing levels of violence and bullying in schools. Two studies which was conducted in 2008 and 2013 showed that 22% of learners were subjected to assault, sexual assault and robberies. The Western Cape seems to top the list in the country in cases of school violence. We chat now to the spokesperson of the Department of Basic Education, Elijah Mhlanga
