Yesterday marked that watershed moment in South Africa’s history – what has been widely called the Marikana massacre. The 16th August marks exactly three years since 34 miners were gunned down by police during a violent, unprotected strike. Yesterday, scores of people gathered on the infamous koppie where they paid tribute to those victims.
Of course, three years later, nothing much has changed for the families of these miners.
