Potential class action suit against gold mines
Loading player...
The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) and Sonke Gender Justice have been given the green light to present evidence against gold mining companies in a potential class action suit by hundreds of thousands of miners who contracted silicosis and tuberculosis (TB) in their line of work. Silicosis is a degenerative lung disease arising from exposure to and inhalation of silica dust during mining. If certified, the class action will be the largest by far ever to be certified in South Africa. The hearings get underway from today.
