Yesterday marked Media Freedom Day which is also known as Black Wednesday, commemorated on the 19 October 1977. This day saw the banning of The World, Weekend World, Pro Veritate and 17 other Black Consciousness organisations. Over the past weekend President Jacob Zuma held a gathering with senior editors and journalists to discuss the Protection of State Information Bill as well as the possible establishment of a Media Appeals Tribunal.
