Investigative journalist and author, Nick Turse, is currently on tour in South Africa to speak on the themes covered in his book Tomorrow’s Battlefield: US Proxy Wars and Secret Ops in Africa (AMEC: 2015). Turse will speak in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. The tour will include a series of public lectures and private meetings, and the launch of Tomorrow’s Battlefield.
Turse has spent years following the activities on the US military in various parts of the world, particularly Africa. He is particularly seized with the growth of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) on the continent, and the increasing number of its secret missions here. He points out that in 2014 alone AFRICOM conducted an estimated 674. missions in Africa with a range of state militaries – including South Africa’s.
